The ASQ Binghamton section appreciates the opportunity provided by of the Raymond Corporation to participate in a plant tour on Thursday October 19th at the Greene, New York site.

Raymond is a division of Toyota, and tour attendees were given an overview of the site operations and insight into effective Japanese manufacturing techniques. The tour included a review of the warranty return process which has reduced warranty costs from $6million in 2006 to $2million in 2016… all with simultaneous substantial business growth. Attendees learned the Asaichi (morning) meeting methodology for problem identification and resolution. The tour further demonstrated how “Visualization and Problem Solving” and “Change Point” techniques are used to proactively manage changes in the manufacturing process. A walking tour of the fabrication, assembly and test areas showed the extensive product lines and the positive impact of 5-S applications in this modern, well organized and efficient company.
After the tour, attendees were treated to pizza and soft drinks.
